Is Phi Theta Kappa a fraternity or sorority?

No, it is an honor society. Our honor society is open to any Central Piedmont student that meets the eligibility requirements of GPA and credit hours. We recognize excellence, hard work, good grades, leadership, and commitment. At Central Piedmont joining Phi Theta Kappa is by invitation only, where students that meet the requirements receive an invitation letter from Dr. Deitemeyer, the president of Central Piedmont. 

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society, with lifetime membership and one-time only fee; once you become a member, you keep your active membership if your GPA meets the requirements. 

Do I have to pay any fee to join?

There is a one-time fee of $80. No monthly fees, further dues or payments will be charged (except a late fee, if necessary). This $80 covers the international cost for membership, your golden key pin, certificate and the induction ceremony and reception. 

I do not have $80, but I want to join the honor society.

If you are unable to pay, you may be able to apply for a fee waiver.  This process is competitive, and we award a limited number of waivers each semester. For further details, email Ptk@cpcc.edu

Do I have to come to meetings or participate in events?

You may be as active in our organization as you like or have time for. We understand that our students are busy with jobs, families, schoolwork, and other obligations, so there is no requirement to participate. 

What are the benefits of joining?

2. Opportunities to apply to exclusive scholarships for PTK members only ($80 now may turn into much more in scholarships) 
3. Privilege of wearing the monogrammed golden honors stole and tassel at graduation (additional cost to purchase). 
4. "Member of Phi Theta Kappa" included on transcript 
5. Gold seal on your CPCC diploma upon graduation 
6. Automatic enrollment in the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Database, which is made available to four-year and senior-level institutions that actively recruit transfer students 
7. Automatic nomination for the National Dean's list publication of outstanding students from two-years, four-years, and graduate schools 
8. The Golden Key of Phi Theta Kappa Membership pin, Membership certificate and Wallet identification card
